The Journey of the Mission…

The Journey of the Mission…

“…Last year at O’Hare airport the plane came to a stop; that is to say, the airport was completely shut down due to the snow for two days and nights. I was there. In fact, I should clarify something. Our plane was the last to land. They then announced that, not only were we stuck and that not even a single plane was taking off, but, that we couldn’t even leave the airport due to the snow. There were people going around and yelling at the hostesses: “I have to leave right now! I have to get to Cincinnati…”! But besides the people that were yelling and intending to leave immediately, there was also one extraordinary woman. She went around to all of the mothers that were traveling with small children saying, “Let me take your little ones…I’ve always wanted to be a...

What if God Wanted to Tell You: I Love You!

What if God Wanted to Tell You: I Love You!

We respond by proclaiming “Word of the Lord”. We say this because we believe in these words. We believe that this is precisely the message that God wanted to get through to us. The God that we believe in is one that became a man in order to come among us and to tell us in words and with deeds: “You are important to me”, “you are precious in my eyes…I love you” (cf. Isaiah 43:4). Do you take these words for granted? If your answer is yes, it means you haven’t really understood them. If your answer is no, it means that there is still room in you to listen to the message of love that God has been addressing to you from eternity. I will tell you something. When I was 15 years old I made the most important and beautiful discovery of my life, one which changed my...

Mary: Model of the Faith for the 3rd Millennium

Mary: Model of the Faith for the 3rd Millennium

“Faith is the victory that conquers the world” (1JOHN 5:4) The Church is missionary by its very nature. She, the spouse of the Incarnate Word, experiences the pressing need to manifest her bridegroom to the world as the new millennium has begun. Since faith in Jesus Christ is “the victory that conquers the world” (1JOHN 5:4) the Church meditates on the faith of her model the Blessed Virgin Mary. Through the Virgin Mary’s faith “the Word became Flesh and dwelt among us” (JOHN 1:14) and the Church looks to her life of faith that it may embrace and conquer the world for Jesus Christ. St. Elizabeth was the first to recognize the heroic faith of the Virgin Mary when she exclaimed, “Blessed is she who believed that the Lord’s...

God's Gift of the Eucharist

God's Gift of the Eucharist

Often in life we have to separate from the people that we love. At these times we would like to be able to leave with them something important, something that will remind them of the mutual bond that we have with the person. It is in the moments of affectionately embracing our friend that words spring from the heart: “I hope that every time you think about me in the future you can imagine me as though I am still embracing you.” We feel the desire to leave something of ourselves, something alive and real, but at the same time we meet the bitter realization that when we are absent, our human limits don’t allow us to make ourselves present. I think that deep down, this is the reason why it is so hard to separate ourselves from those we love. It is for this reason...

The Desert Will Bloom

The Desert Will Bloom

A few years ago I was watching a documentary on TV. The images running in front of my eyes were those of a barren and arid desert. I could see rocks, sand, and dry soil… but I could not see its limits. It wasn’t the first time that I saw such an interesting landscape. But suddenly something struck me: the sky became cloudy and rain started falling. As soon as the rain stopped, I saw something unexpected. Flowers and grass started blooming everywhere, changing the aspect of the desert into that of a beautiful prairie. I opened my eyes wide: I had never seen anything so beautiful before! I would have never thought that such a prodigy could occur in a dry land. The commentary of the documentary was explaining that the wind carries many seeds in the desert, which...
